What's your connection to Nottingham, and what do you love most about it?

I moved to Nottingham in 2021 to start my undergraduate degree in Business Management at Nottingham Trent University. Like many students, I moved around each year, which gave me the chance to experience different parts of the city - each with its own unique character. What I love most about Nottingham is its incredible variety of independent businesses. Whether it’s a hidden gem of a food van on Lincoln Street or a locally owned pub on Broad Street, there’s always something new to discover. The city has a real energy to it, and that mix of creativity and community spirit is what makes it special.

What’s your role at It’s in Nottingham, and how did you get into it?

I’m the Business Engagement Officer, focusing on Business Crime Reduction within the business improvement district. My role is all about getting businesses involved in safety initiatives across the city, ensuring Nottingham remains a welcoming and secure place for everyone. Before this, I spent over seven years working in hospitality, which gave me firsthand experience of the challenges businesses face, especially within the nighttime economy. That background really shaped my approach; I know how important it is to be proactive when it comes to safety and community support.

What’s your favourite hidden gem in the city that visitors often overlook?

Sneinton Market is a must-visit! It’s one of those places that always has something new to offer, whether it’s independent shops, creative workshops, or amazing street food. It’s got a great atmosphere, and you could visit again and again and still find something different each time. If you’re looking for a spot that captures the independent and artistic side of Nottingham, this is it!
